Malaria testing questions to ask at a clinic
Malaria prevention and treatment · Version 3
Published for academic testing - Research-owner authorisation, 16 Oct 2026. This is separate from independent clinical review.
This guide helps adults prepare for a clinic conversation about suspected malaria. Ask which test is available, how the sample is collected, when the result will be ready and who will explain it. A rapid diagnostic test and microscopy are different methods used to detect malaria infection.
Tell the health worker when symptoms started and about recent medicines or travel. Before leaving, ask what to do if the result is negative but illness continues, or if symptoms worsen after treatment. Keep any result or treatment record for follow-up. Do not use this guide to read a test strip or choose a medicine. For emergency warning signs, seek immediate care rather than waiting for a routine testing appointment.
