Repeat measurements or home monitoring may help a professional assess blood pressure. One isolated result does not replace assessment. Ask about a suitable monitor, technique and follow-up rather than changing medicine based on a single reading.
Use a validated automatic upper-arm monitor with a cuff that fits. Ask a professional to demonstrate it. Rest quietly, sit with back supported and feet flat, and support the bare arm at heart level. Follow the device instructions; remain still and do not talk. Record repeat readings and times for the care team. A single result cannot establish a diagnosis. Chest pain, breathing difficulty or sudden weakness requires immediate assessment rather than waiting for routine readings.
