Typhoid: transmission and testing

Typhoid is a bacterial infection that can spread through contaminated food or water. Fever alone cannot confirm it. Appropriate professional assessment and testing help guide treatment and avoid assuming every fever is typhoid.
Tell a professional about symptoms, duration, travel and possible food or water exposure. Ask which tests are appropriate and how results affect care. Do not assume malaria and typhoid always occur together or begin combined treatment because of fever. Safe water, sanitation and safer food handling support prevention. A test result needs interpretation in context; this guide cannot validate a laboratory report.
